Our GreatAuPair Representatives are ready to meet you in person.

GreatAuPair has representatives in your area that can meet with you for an in-person interview, answer your questions, assist you in obtaining your J-1 au pair visa and help you prepare for your trip to America.

GreatAuPair is designated by the U.S. Department of State to administer the U.S. J-1 visa Au Pair Program, which means we can provide you the dedicated support you need to find the perfect host family and be an au pair in America for up to two years.

Being a Great Au Pair gives you the opportunity to experience the culture and lifestyle of America through a fun and exciting job with important responsibilities.

Your host family will welcome you into their home as an important family member and trusted caregiver for their children. To ensure that you have the best experience possible, GreatAuPair has a thorough screening process for both host families and au pairs. We personally meet with every GreatAuPair family in their home, check their references and perform a background check. You will also be carefully evaluated on your skills, experience and motivation for wanting to become an au pair.

In order to apply, you must meet the following GreatAuPair requirements:

  • Be between the ages of 18 and 26 years upon US arrival.
  • Be a non-US citizen and live in a country serviced by GreatAuPair
  • Love children and have at least 200 hours of experience caring for them
  • Speak conversational English
  • Have no criminal background
  • Have completed secondary school
  • Have a valid drivers license
  • Be in good health and be a non-smoker
  • Be willing to come to the US for one year
  • Complete the GreatAuPair application and interview process
  • Complete the 40-hour online GreatAuPair Training Academy prior to arrival so that you can be confident and fully prepared for a rewarding experience as an au pair in the U.S.

There is no better way to learn about a different culture than to be completely immersed in it. Living with your host family and caring for their children will do just that. From everyday activities like going to the grocery store, eating dinner with your host family or going out with friends, to weekend trips or holiday gatherings, you will be surrounded by American culture.

We offer year-round arrivals into major cities in the US. Do you have a favorite US city you'd like to explore for a year or two? If so, get ready to experience a whole new world as an au pair. If you meet the requirements above, please complete your free au pair profile.
